Luckily, her friend did call 911 and an EMT rushes in. Thinking quickly, the man pulls Ashley from the tub and begins to perform CPR. Puffing air into her mouth to fill her lungs with air and pushing on her chest in a desperate attempt to get her heart beating, he pauses to check for a pulse, before starting the process again. After several unsuccessful around of manual resuscitation, he reaches for his EMT bag to charge up the defibrillator. Placing the paddles on her chest, he shouts “Clear!” and discharges 200 joules into the unconscious woman, causing her back to arch, her limbs to go rigid from the electricity flowing through her.

When that produces no response, he turns the charge up to 300j, repeating the process, but there is still no effect. Going all the way to 360j, the man says a silent prayer, knowing that he is in a race against time, for this lovely woman’s life. He presses the paddles hard against her body, pushing the button to send one last charge through her, in a mad race to restart her circulation. Her body convulses and spasms from the high voltage, but afterwards remains unmoving, unbreathing. The EMT has been around long enough to know a lost cause when he sees one. A bathtub may seem innocuous, but combined with exhaustion and intoxication, it can prove just as lethal as any ocean. Now she’s just one more statistic, as the man records the beautiful woman’s time of death and contacts the county coroner’s office to pick one up for the morgue.
